This is not simply a biography of Vincent van Gogh. It is a journey into Vincent: the painter, the restless human being, the seeker of colour, meaning and light.
Barbara Stok creates a wonderful exposé of what this brilliant artist went through, without turning his life into a museum piece. She gives us a Vincent who struggles, searches, stumbles, observes and keeps creating. And woven through it all is something deeply personal: the sense of what it means to make art at all, and of the obstacles, accidents and opportunities that shape a creative life.
