Darfur on my mind
As I flicked through my photos
seeking the image of myself pointing
up in the air
in a flooded not so dry riverbed
In Oure Cassoni, Chad
The other side of Darfur
Where near Bahai
The Camel Pastoralists
Cross from East to West
North to South
And vice versa
In the midst of snow storm
My mind wanders
I worked in that refugee camp in 2006
20 years later
A whole generation has seen nothing
But the camp
It matters where your crib was
When you were born
Clearly it does

Deep sea mining Run off from palm plantation Algae bloom Fish death Human skin disease
